Talent spotting for the next generation

Talent spotting for the next generation

RPC is sponsoring the 2017 Student and Schools Starpack Awards as part of its ongoing commitment to attract the next generation of packaging professionals.

The awards are designed to encourage the cream of the UK’s young people to consider a career in packaging design and technology, and play an important role in fostering talent within the nation’s schools, colleges and universities.

Working with organisers the Packaging Society, RPC has drawn up separate project briefs for the two awards. The challenge for schools is to design a ‘fun’ soap dispenser to encourage children to wash their hands, while students are being asked to consider how to balance the sometimes conflicting demands of a takeaway pack that also meets environmental criteria.

The awards were launched at the start of the new academic year and the winners will be announced in May 2017.

“Great packaging has a major impact and makes a significant difference in many end markets,” comments RPC Design Manager Brian Lodge.

The packaging industry has a proud heritage and it is vital that we maintain this by attracting the best new talent. We are therefore delighted to be supporting the Starpack education awards and helping to raise the profile of packaging as a long term career choice.”

RPC’s pro-active education policy also includes a graduate entry scheme and comprehensive apprentice programmes across its sites, along with internships, school visits and work placement opportunities. The company launched its on-site Apprentice Academy at the RPC Superfos Oakham site in 2014 and opened a specialist blow moulding training facility at its RPC Promens Rushden site the following year.
